In Memoriam: February 2, - December 22, Herman Feshbach was a dominant force in Nuclear Physics for many years. He provided the theoretical basis of nuclear reaction theory with his papers on the "Unified Theory of Nuclear Reactions" and was the originator of the Feshbach resonance which is used to control the interaction between atoms in ultracold quantum gases. He contributed significantly to the statistical description of nuclear states and reactions. He became an instructor in physics in and received the PhD in He was appointed to the faculty as an assistant professor in , later becoming an associate professor in and full professor in He retired in
